8.4 Period of Residence

The vast majority (94%) of Maltese migrants were residents in Australia for 10 years or longer, and more than 50% were resident for over 30 years. As seen in earlier (Chapter 3) this is typical of Maltese migrants in general - only 7.4 % of the Maltese born population have been in Australian for less than 10 years (Census of Population and Housing 1986, see Castles 1989).
